German seniors reenact famous film moments
It was only supposed to be a calendar, but it has become an Internet sensation: Seniors from a variety of homes in Germany reenacted classic Hollywood movie scenes in front of the camera.
Bond. James Bond.
Is that Sean Connery doing his last 007 stint? The age would almost fit, but this is 89-year-old Wilhelm Buiting. His Bond scene is one of 12 reenactments for a calendar by seniors from different residences in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Only 5,000 copies were printed for the seniors, family members and employees, but DW has all the photos in their full glory for you right here.
Born to be wild
Walter Loeser (98, as Billy alias Dennis Hopper) and Kurt Neuhaus (90, as Wyatt alias Peter Fonda), were enjoying themselves a great deal in this scene from the 1969 film "Easy Rider." Supposedly the two gentlemen refused to get off the bikes after the photo shoot ended: They wanted to go for a real spin.
Gigantic
When "Giant" hit theaters in 1956, Joanna Trachenberg (81, as Leslie Lynnton) and Horst Krischat (78, as Jett Rink) were almost the same age as the original leads, Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean.
Stayin' alive
At the age of 87, Siegfried Gallasch can still shake it like John Travolta's Tony Manero in "Saturday Night Fever" (1977). He and 79-year-old Irmgard Alt as Stephanie Mangano, alias Karen Lynn Gorney, are rocking the dancefloor.
Time of their life
The computer had to help a little with this one: Johann Liedtke, 92, isn't really able to lift Marianne Pape, 79, in this "Dirty Dancing" (1987) reenactment. To be fair, it did take playboy Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) and innocent "Baby" Houseman (Jennifer Grey) quite some time to nail the move as well.
Singing the blues
One of these brothers is a sister: Margarete Schmidt (77, right) and Lothar Wischnewski (76) are doubling "The Blues Brothers," played by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd in the 1980 film. The seniors, who live in a Catholic residence, were pleased to actually be "on a mission from God" for this photo.
"I'm flying, Jack!"
Goosebumps, anyone? Erna Rütt (86) and Alfred Kelbach (81) are reenacting the famous "Titanic" scene from 1997 that saw Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) kiss for the first time on the ocean liner's bow.
Bye bye, mein lieber Herr!
Liza Minelli's nightclub singer Sally Bowles became an icon with this famous scene from "Cabaret" (1977), in which she coldly blows off a lover. Seventy-seven-year-old Martha Bajohr could pass as Minelli's twin.
Eye of the tiger
Erwin J. von der Heiden (80) is pictured here in a remake of in Sylvester Stallone's victory pose from "Rocky." The 1976 movie about a small-time boxer who gets the chance of a lifetime with a big fight was the action star's Hollywood breakthrough.
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Julie Andrews originated film history's most famous tongue twister in Disney's 1964 hit "Mary Poppins." Here, Photoshop lets 78-year-old Erna Schenk float over London just like the magical flying nanny who saves the Banks family.
A breath of fresh air
The dress that Ingeborg Giolbass (84) wears in this reenactment from "The Seven Year Itch" is not the one worn by Marilyn Monroe in the 1955 comedy. That original was auctioned off for 3.2 million euros ($4.3 million). But Giolbass and Erich Endlein (88) as Richard Sherman, originally played by Tom Ewell, are still enjoying the nice breeze.
Moon River
Here, Marianne Brunsbach (86) plays Holly Golightly from the 1961 classic "Breakfast at Tiffany's." The role of the vulnerable and eccentric society girl immortalized actress Audrey Hepburn. The outfits for the calendar's photos mainly came from a costume rental, but some of the seniors used their own props.
