Injured Polish Prime Minister To Attend EU Summit

Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller, injured in a helicopter crash last week, has decided to left the hospital and will attend a two-day European Union summit where Poland, along with Spain, is set to fight to preserve the voting rights established in the 2000 Treaty of Nice. On Thursday, for the first time after the helicopter crash, Miller left the Warsaw hospital to attend a cabinet meeting in a wheelchair. "We are determined to seek acceptable solutions for all participants in the conference," he told the ministers. Poland and Spain are insisting on keeping the voting system, which gave them 27 votes each in a future Council of Ministers, just two less than Germany and France. However, the draft constitution calls for votes to by taken by a double majority consisting of the majority of EU members and the majority of its population. (EUobserver.com)
