Human rights activists fear that the Turkish government is putting tens of thousands of lives at risk. Similar concerns were shared by Turkish academics when they signed a petition earlier this month calling for a resumption of the peace process and an end to the military crackdown against Kurdish fighters. But the intellectuals' stance has put them under the threat of arrest, jail and even worse.
