One-fifth of Scotland is covered in peat bogs, a spongy ground made of decomposed vegetation formed over thousands of years. The bogs act as a natural carbon sink and scientists say they could help play a role in climate change mitigation. But Scotland’s peatlands have seen better days, with most of them damaged by human interference. Now, efforts are underway to restore this iconic landscape.
