This week’s eco@africa takes you around the world looking at innovative ideas ensuring our food and drink is not only tasty and healthy, but also good for the environment!
First, we’re in Nigeria, where scientists have found a way to make better use of the cassava plant, cutting down on waste and generating more income for farmers.
Join us in Kenya, where the fruit of the baobab tree is being celebrated as a new superfood. Will demand for the product put the trees in danger?
Next up, a tasty alternative to disposable coffee cups - one you can eat! We visit a Bulgarian startup which has developed an eco-friendly way to enjoy a cup of coffee.
Then we’re off to Uganda, where more and more farmers are getting their products certified as organic - but it’s not always easy.
In Germany, household waste is separated for recycling - including food waste. Instead of being thrown away, it’s being used to produce energy powering some of the city’s garbage trucks!
Finally, we’ll take you to South Africa, where a young designer has developed a beehive box that box that boosts honey production and helps to protect the bees.
