Der Preis wird unabhängig von ideologischen, religiösen oder parteipolitischen Kriterien und unabhängig von sozialer oder nationaler Zugehörigkeit der Preisträgerinnen und Preisträger verliehen. Die Verleihung des Aachener Friedenspreises findet jährlich zum Antikriegstag am 1. September statt.

Einer neuen Studie zufolge ist entlang der San-Andreas-Verwerfung nördlich von Los Angeles nach einer verhältnismäßig langen Ruhephase ein starker Erdstoß längst überfällig. Zu diesem Schluss kommen Wissenschaftler von der Universität in Irvine (Kalifornien) und Tempe (Arizona). Ihre Studie wird in der Septemberausgabe des US-Fachblatts «Geology» veröffentlicht.
